NATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Picture

The National Catholic Committee on Scouting (NCCS) publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Bridge, which has items about Catholic scouting throughout the country and opportunities for training. The current edition can be found by clicking on the name of the newsletter above.

The NCCS also offers several programs to assist Scouts of all ages to learn more about their faith and earn recognition through colorful patches.  These are activity patches, not religious emblems, and as such are not eligible for the BSA religious knot. Two of the programs are mentioned below.

The Rosary Series

This program features learning about the Mysteries of the Rosary (at left is the patch for the Glorious Mysteries) as well as an activity in praying the Rosary in general. Complete information is found at the NCCS website.

The Footsteps of American Saints Series
Picture
The Footsteps of American Saints program is a series of religious activities that encourages youth to learn about several individuals who have shaped the landscape of Catholicism in America. Through a knowledge of the lives of these Saints and Blesseds it is hoped that participants will be inspired to imitate their heroic virtues and follow in their footsteps.

A patch with the saint’s likeness is available for each activity (at left is St. Kateri Tekakwitha).  Information all the saints in this series is found at the NCCS Website.
